Our World Interview- “What are you doing today?” interview

ANOTHER “WHAT ARE YOU DOING TODAY?” INTERVIEW

Question:  ”Welcome to Our World Interviews.  Today for our bilingual Spanish and English interview we’re asking somebody what they are going to do today.”

“So, hi. Hello.”  ”Hi.”  ”Can you tell me what you are going to do today? “

¿Qué vas a hacer hoy? (informal)   ¿Qué va a hacer usted hoy? (formal)

Description: A woman talks about doing a Spanish lesson on giving directions, picking up her children and going to Sea World, and cooking vegetables for her daughter, who normally doesn’t like vegetables.

Important verbsdar–give,  aprender–learn,  voy a ir–going to go,      voy a ir recoger a mi hijo–going to pick up my son,  recogeré–will pick up,            vamos a ir–we’re going to go,     les gusta mucho–they like it alot,      porque les encantan los animales–because they love animals,    esta tarde vamos a cocinar–this afternoon we’re going to cook,       mi hija me prometió- my daughter promised me,     que va a probar–she is going to try,  decidirá cuales le gustan– will decide which ones she likes (are pleasing to her)  espero que si–I hope so,   

Important vocabulary:  los animales–the animals,  mi hijo–son,  mi hija–daughter,la berenjena–eggplant, zanahorias–carrots,  crudas–raw(discussing the raw vegetables)

 

Description: Woman talks about  making sopa de fideo (a  traditional Mexican soup with fideo noodles) on the following day and recording it.

Question:”Okay that sounds like fun and can you tell me what are you going to do tomorrow?”   

¿Qué vas a hacer mañana?(informal)   ¿Qué va a hacer usted mañana?(formal)

Important verbs: estamos planeando–we are planning,   cocinar–cook,      de hacer–to make,    lo interesante es que–the interesting thing is that,   vamos a grabar–we’re going to record,   fácil de hacer--easy to make,

Important vocabulary:   sopa de fideos-a traditional Mexican soup with fideo noodles,  sitío de internet –website,   en vivo–live, la versión mexicana–the Mexican version, muy rica-it means to taste really good or rich

 

Description: Woman talks about taking a walk around the lake near her house.

Question: “Okay, so can you tell us  what did you do yesterday?”  

¿Qué hiciste ayer?  Or ¿Qué hizo usted ayer?

Important verbs: -fue–was,  fuimos a caminar–went for a walk,  a nosotros nos gusta mucho–we like very much,    se respira el aire fresco muy temprano–we breath really fresh (and cool) air very early in the morning,  pueden pescar–they can fish

Important vocabulary:divertido–fun,      muy temprano–very early,   esposo–husband,   un lago–a lake,    cerca de mi casa–near my house, pájaros–birds,  truchas–trout,  lanchas–boats, ejercicio–exercise

 

Description:Woman talks about participating in a fundraiser for her son’s school.

Question: “Okay, can you tell me is there anything coming up soon that you are looking forward to?”

  “¿Hay algún proyecto en puerta que esté usted ansioso de hacer?”

Important verbs: va a bailar–going to dance,  van a vender--going to sell, recaudar fondos–to raise money,   A mí me tocó vender–they assigned me the task of selling, no  celebramos–we don’t celebrate, piensa-think

Important vocabulary: guardería–child care,  una kermes–fundraising festival,  comida y bebidas–food and drinks,   escuela–school,  refrescos–sodas, cinco de mayo–5th of May celebration
